3 Reasons To Not Neglect Rest This Christmas Season

I know how it is. It's the Christmas season and your worship leading life is crazy right now.

There are a hundred and one things that you could be doing to prepare for this Sunday and a million more you could be doing to get ready for your Christmas services. Your to-do list is LONG this time of year!

And for many worship leaders, that means working long hours - much longer than you normally do - and maybe even working on what's supposed to be your day off. Because there's just not enough time to get it all done.

And what ends up happening? You go through the entire month of December without taking any time to REST. But, REST is so important - in ministry in general but particularly during busy seasons.

Here are 3 reasons to not neglect rest this Christmas season:

1 | A well-rested worship leader is a worship leader who leads worship well

If you are not well-rested this Christmas season, it's going to be hard to lead worship well.

Burnout is real and it's even more prevalent during the Christmas season when it's easy to form unhealthy habits.

Your church deserves a well-rested leader. Not just a leader who does "all the things."

But, the truth is, no one in your church is going to ask you take a break - they'll just ask you to add more to your to-do list. So, that means that it's YOUR responsibility to prioritize rest this season so that you can lead worship well.

2 | Parkinson's Law and inefficient working

Parkinson's law states that "work expands to fill the time available for its completion." If you firmly give yourself an hour to get something done, it'll take an hour. On the other hand, if you give yourself 3 hours to get it done, it'll take 3 hours.

Giving yourself more time to get your Christmas planning done only leads to procrastination and inefficient working. So, choosing not to rest is actually a form of laziness. Set a deadline, stick to it, and take a day off!

3 | God didn't say "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy... except during the Christmas season."

Just read that point again...

Don't compromise what you know to be true simply because you "got busy."
