A 5 Step System For People To Join Your Worship Team

3 Ways To Improve Your Worship Team's Musicianship

It's important to have a system that people can follow to join your worship team. First, if you don't have a system, then it's not clear what steps someone needs to take to join your team. When someone asks to join your team and you give them a vague answer on how to do it, they leave uncertain about what to do next and the process stops there.

It's also important to have a system for people to follow because it shows that being on the worship team is an important responsibility. If you don't currently have a system for people to join your worship team, consider implementing the one below.

Here is a 5 step system for people to join your worship team:

1 | Ask

You've got to get people to step into the system in the first place. That takes place two ways: either they ask YOU or YOU ask them. If they ask you to join, you can simply tell them the next step of the process.

However, most people won't ask. So, in order to get the ball moving, you have to identify their potential to be on the team and then ask them to take the appropriate steps to join.

2 | Application

An application communicates the responsibility of joining the worship team. It shows that this isn't just a rash decision that someone should make - there should be thought put into it. Having people write down their prior experience and answering some basic questions will deter some people because it's "too much work." But the truth is, if filling out a simple application is too much work, then they would probably not be a good fit on your worship team anyways.

3 | Audition

It's crucial to have a set time to make a "yes or no" decision in your system. An audition is the perfect time for this. It gives you a chance to see their musical skill and get to know them a little bit better. Then, you can schedule a follow up to give them a yes or a no.

4 | Assimilation

Don't just leave someone new to figure everything out on their own. Walk with them through what it looks like to prepare for rehearsal and lead on a Sunday morning.

5 | Apply

Finally, once they're comfortable, set them loose. Give them the chance to apply what they've learned without your help.
