The bottom line is: if you want to truly connect with the people you're leading in worship, the first time they see you shouldn't be when you step on stage and start singing the first song.
Be visible beforehand.
You should look like a normal church member who just happens to play on the worship team instead of someone who leads worship who just happens to be at church.
Before you lead tomorrow morning, make yourself visible - go hang out in the lobby and say "hi" to people as they walk in!
After you lead tomorrow morning, leave your gear alone for a moment, walk off stage, and say "hi" to someone.
