The 3 Essential Pieces Of A Sustainable Worship Ministry

Think about all the different pieces that make up a worship ministry...

At it's core you've got: some musicians who lead worship, a worship rehearsal, and worship services.

Most leaders can get those pieces up and running.

But, it's so important to - not just build a worship ministry - but to build a SUSTAINABLE worship ministry.

You don't want to put in the work of building a ministry to only have it last for a year or two and then collapse.

So, how do you do it?

Here are the 3 essential pieces of a sustainable worship ministry:

1 | Healthy culture

Your culture is the heart of your worship team.

Healthy things grow. Unhealthy things die.

For that reason, it's so important to keep the HEART of your team healthy - or it'll last for a little bit and then collapse.

We'll cover how to build a healthy culture more in Thursday's post. But, here are some quick tips for building a healthy worship team culture: identify what's important, create systems that reinforce the culture you want, communicate the key culture points to your team over and over and over again.

2 | A clear on-boarding process

The people on your team will not serve forever. That's why you need to constantly look for ways to replenish your well of volunteers.

That way - not only will there be people still on your team if someone decides they need an extended break - but it also allows people who are currently on your team to take short breaks. That means they won't burn out AND will be able to serve longer on your team.

In order to add additional volunteers to your team, you need a clear on-boarding process.

Part of the reason people don't join worship teams is because they don't know how to.

Set up a system that communicates tangible steps people can take to join your team.

3 | Leadership development

Just like people won't serve on your team forever - you won't lead your team forever.

If you want your team to outlast you - you have to raise up other leaders.

Not only will raising up other leaders allow the worship ministry in your church to outlast you - it'll also give you a chance to take regular breaks allowing you to serve longer.
