Throughout the study you and your team will explore 2 biblical stories about preparing for the Easter celebration and learn how the death and resurrection of Jesus changes how we worship God.
Here’s an outline of the study:
Week 1 | The Preparation Is Worth The Celebration
Learn about the sacrifice of Easter preparation by looking at how Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus prepared the body of Jesus for burial.
Through examining this biblical account, your team will have a chance to recognize the hard work that is put in for preparing for the Easter season. But all of that extra effort isn’t wasted. They’ll be encouraged by realizing that the preparation they put in is worth the celebration of the Gospel!
Week 2 | Run To The Tomb
Learn about leading the way in the resurrection celebration by looking at John and Peter’s journey to the empty tomb.
As your team reads the story of John and Peter on that first Easter morning, they’ll learn that John and Peter had to go on the “Easter journey” before they led others on the “Easter journey.” After the women in the garden told them that the tomb was empty, they raced to see it for themselves.
Your team will be reminded that - in order to lead others on the journey to the empty tomb - we must first go on the journey ourselves.
Week 3 | Easter Transforms Our Worship (Death)
Learn about how the DEATH of Jesus changes how we worship God.
Before we get to the good news of Jesus’s resurrection, we must first reflect on the seemingly bad news of His death.
Your team will learn that Jesus’s death on the cross is good news because it forever changed the way we worship God. As He became the ultimate sacrifice, He made a way once and for all for us to come before a holy God in worship.
Week 4 | Easter Transforms Our Worship (Resurrection)
Learn about how the RESURRECTION of Jesus changes how we worship God.
As your team enters the final stages of preparing for Easter, they’ll be reminded of how the resurrection affects - not just one Sunday out of the year - but our entire lives as we offer them in worship to God. You’ll be reminded to not let the celebration of the resurrection end on Easter Sunday but to continue to reflect on it throughout the rest of the year.
Devotionals consist of two parts:
First - you and your team will work your way through a devotional that teaches a key concept behind preparing to lead this Easter and how Easter transforms our worship.
Second - after you read the devotional, you and your team will be given a set of questions to reflect on.
This is where the true transformation and learning happens.
These questions will give your team a chance to discuss what they’ve just learned and how it applies to your specific church.
All in all, your devotional time will be about 15 minutes long - 5 minutes of teaching and 10 minutes of discussion (or longer if your team is talkative!).
