3 Ways To Reacclimate Your Worship Team To Leading Worship

Worship leader: as lockdowns lift, I know you have a million things you're trying to figure out.

In the midst of all of your "I don't knows" and logistics, don't forget that you still have a responsibility to lead your worship TEAM.

A lot of worship leaders have been taking the "lone wolf" approach during this season of social distancing - and that's been appropriate. But, as churches move back to meeting in person, you're going to have to shift back to working with and equipping a team.

That is, after all, how the church is supposed to function in the first place.

One of the challenges you're going to face is how to prepare your worship team (who just had the past 2 and a half months off or at least served in a different capacity than what they were used to) to lead worship again.

Here are 3 ways to reacclimate your worship team to leading worship:

1 | Recommunicate expectations

I've talked about this over and over again but it bears repeating: the best way to avoid problems and conflict on your worship team is to be super clear on your expectations.

And, honestly, those expectations are hard to set when you identify a problem on your team and then choose to passive aggressively "restate your expectations" in hopes of secretly pointing out the problem and hoping people will get the picture and fix it themselves.

This is a transition phase right now. And transitions are the perfect time to recommunicate your expectations for your team.

So, think about this past season before the lockdown, what are some expectations you wish you had communicated?

2 | Remind them of the mission

Remind your team WHY they're doing what they're doing. Sure, it's fun that we get to gather together and play music again. But, remind them that our purpose is STILL much deeper than just playing music.

3 | Ride the momentum

Your team is well rested right now! There is momentum in this season. Use this as a jumping off point to do those things that your team has always been too tired to do in the past.
