Enrollment for this curriculum closes on Friday, September 26 at 11:59PM PST

My worship team used to
just think they were musicians.

I remember the first worship team I led.

I was just 16 years old, an awkward teenage guitarist suddenly in charge of 10 people. (Yes. The picture above is actually me when I was 16!)

Why me? Because I knew how to play music. That was it.

And guess what we focused on? Music.

We spent hours perfecting harmony parts, teaching the drummer the right beat, picking keyboard sounds. It felt productive, but everything was about the music.

Over time, my team started seeing themselves as just a band. They'd show up late, fight over who sang what songs, or expect to play on Sunday without coming to rehearsal.

Sunday mornings felt like "our time to play some cool music," veiled under "leading people in worship."

But deep down, I knew we were missing something…

Years Later:
Still Searching for More

Fast forward to my first full-time worship leading job after college.

I had an amazing team – great musicians who genuinely cared. We even realized what we were doing went beyond just playing music.

We had short devotional times. I was trying to shepherd them. But still, I didn't really have a clear plan for Sunday mornings.

Our services were a predictable sequence:

  • Sing a few songs

  • Announcements

  • Sing another song

  • Canned transitionary prayer just to get into the sermon time

  • Sermon

  • Sing a closing song

Music played a major role. And while music is important, there was still that subtle feeling that I didn't quite fully grasp what a corporate gathering should truly look like.

My team sounded great, but was this really what God called us to do on Sundays?

The Breakthrough:
God's Blueprint for Worship

Then, everything changed.

When I started at my current church, I stepped into a subtle but palpable culture of "worship wars" – traditional vs. contemporary.

After much prayer and counsel, my pastor and I made the scary decision to combine our two services into one.

How could we take two groups with seemingly completely different ideas of what corporate worship should look like and lead them in worshiping together? And how was I going to lead my worship team through that transition?

There was only one thing to do…

I spent the next year or two digging into Scripture to see what GOD actually said about what our corporate gatherings should look like.

And what I found was... God actually tells us what to do when we gather together!

And better yet – it’s a really awesome plan because it’s HIS plan! I didn’t have to invent some new method; I simply had to study His Word, see what it said about corporate worship, and do it.

And you know what I found? God’s way is the best way, and completely sufficient to glorify Him, edify His church, and serve as the perfect witness to an unbelieving world.

The One Thing That Transformed My Leadership

So, what changed once I learned what the Bible said about our corporate gatherings? Everything.

The authority was no longer in my random ideas or what I thought was "cool." It was in God's Word.

I could now pastor my team by taking them directly to Scripture, showing them why we do what we do:

  • "Hey guys! Colossians 3:16 says our songs are supposed to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly, teaching and admonishing one another with thankfulness in our hearts to God. So, let's pick songs that allow us to do that!"

  • "1 Timothy 2:1 tells us to bring supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings. So in this moment, we're going to have a focused time of prayer. Not because I think it's a good idea, but because God commands it."

This gave me a new, deep confidence in my leading.

I was off the hamster wheel of constantly trying to invent the next new, great idea. I could simply do what God's Word says and trust that it is sufficient to glorify Him and edify His people.

It Transformed My Team

Here's how that affected my team: They actually understood the profound importance of what they were doing on Sunday.

They realized it wasn't just about playing some songs in front of our church; it was about leading people in singing together (not just at them).

We started picking songs that were richly biblical, allowing us to teach and admonish one another, bringing glory to God.

That's so much different than just playing a few songs.

Once they realized that, our conversations at rehearsal changed too!

Yes, we still talk about chord changes and harmonies, but now we spend way MORE time talking about how the songs we sing and the way we lead fulfill the biblical purpose of corporate worship.

These are deeper conversations than just musical ideas.

This meant my team started taking their role extremely seriously – because they knew they weren't just musicians; they were leading worship.

They came to rehearsal prepared musically (knowing their parts and lyrics, and showing up on time) so that they could focus on the spiritual side of leading worship.

Plus, the team is unified in a common vision now. We have a common goal in our worship services, and all of it – the vision, goal, and language we use – isn’t something I made up; it is just what the Word of God says!

It Transformed My Church

And here's how this affected my church: Our gatherings are hands down the most God-glorifying and church-edifying services I’ve ever been a part of.

I’m not saying this to toot my own horn because I planned some really good services. They are that way – not because I’m special – but simply because we have committed to doing what God says to do in our corporate gatherings as revealed in His Word.

It’s not some secret formula I found; it’s literally just studying the Bible and doing what it says.

I’ve gotten so many comments over the past few years about how our services "just feel different than they used to." People can’t quite put their finger on it, but they know that they are being built up, and God is being glorified in a special way. And that special way – I’ll say it again – is just simply doing what God tells us to do in His Word.

So, how can you and your team get there?

Do you just study the Bible for the next two years like I did? You certainly could do that. But then, how do you structure it all in a way that not only helps you learn it yourself, but also effectively teaches it to your team and applies it to what you actually do in your ministry every single week?

Introducing...

Is “More Than Music” Right For Your Team?

This curriculum is designed for worship leaders and their teams who are ready to move beyond a shallow understanding of corporate worship and embrace God's complete, timeless plan as revealed in Scripture.

It will equip you to lead your team in a transformative journey, empowering you to implement biblically aligned worship within your ministry.

This is for you and
your team if:

✅ You are a worship leader who is serious about learning exactly what the Bible says about God’s plan for our corporate worship gatherings.

✅ You know, deep down, that "4 songs and a sermon" isn't fully honoring God's design for your Sunday services, and you're unsatisfied with just singing songs.

✅ You are ready and willing to align your worship practices with Scripture, even if it means making changes to how you currently do things.

✅ You are looking for God’s blueprint for corporate worship, seeking to understand what the Bible actually says and how to implement it practically.

✅ You are committed to a year-long journey of consistent spiritual growth and development for your entire worship team.

✅ You are a worship leader ready to lead your team in aligning your services with God's Word, and you have the capacity to implement those biblical changes within your worship ministry.

✅ You want a unified vision for your worship ministry – one that is, most importantly, aligned with Scripture.

✅ You desire to lead services that are maximally God-glorifying and church-edifying, and serve as a powerful witness to the world.

This is NOT for you and
your team if:

❌ Your primary focus is solely on musical performance, rather than the deeper biblical purpose of corporate worship.

❌ You are content with your current "4 songs and a sermon" worship style and are not open to exploring or integrating additional biblical elements into your services.

❌ You are looking for a "quick fix" or a superficial approach to team development, without the commitment to consistent, year-long growth.

❌ Your church leadership is unwilling to explore or implement changes to your worship services, even if they are clearly aligned with Scripture.

❌ You view elements like Scripture reading, corporate prayer, communion, or baptism as "interruptions" to the main musical event.

More than Music is for those who are ready to return to God’s complete plan as revealed in Scripture and live it out in their worship ministry, trusting that His way is the best way.

Ready to transform your worship ministry?

You've seen the vision for a worship ministry truly aligned with God's Word, and you've heard my own story of how this transformation is possible for your team.

Imagine the impact of a year dedicated to systematically building a worship ministry that truly understands its biblical calling.

Think of the countless hours you'll save on research, planning, and trying to figure out "what else" to do.

Consider the profound spiritual growth and unity your team will experience, and the lasting impact on your Sunday services.

To achieve this level of comprehensive, year-long development for your entire team, you might consider purchasing individual devotionals, sending your team to separate workshops, or even bringing in outside trainers.

  • If you were to purchase four individual devotionals for a team of 10, that alone would cost around $800 per year.

  • If you were to bring in an expert to lead two impactful half-day workshops for your team, that could easily cost $2,000 per workshop.

That means, to piece together a year of this level of biblical training and team development, you could easily be looking at a total cost of upwards of $4,800 annually (and that's not even including any monthly supplemental materials to reinforce what they learn)!

My More than Music curriculum offers this complete, year-long journey for your entire team, providing everything you need in one structured system.

What worship leaders are saying.

Don't just take my word for it.

Here's what other worship leaders and team members are experiencing through my resources and teaching:

"Spencer, we at CCC have been working through your material from the 'Why We Sing' devo/study, and finished up last night at rehearsal. I have really enjoyed all of your material... your teaching has depth but is still very accessible (heady, but not out of reach, say). Keep up the good work!"

- Tony (Why We Sing Devotional)

"I noticed that I had been using the word 'worship' so often that its meaning became a bit unclear to me. This time gave me a chance to think again about what worship really means... I learned simple and practical ways to give glory to God and lead worship better... Most importantly, I remembered that the main purpose of worship is to give glory to God."

- Drummer (Worship Leading Foundations Workshop)

"My team was encouraged and the content was perfect. Everyone understood their role and gained knowledge to move forward."

- Rhonnie, Worship Ministry Director (Worship Leading Foundations Workshop)

"I especially appreciated the definition of worship: 'A treasuring of God above all other things that overflows into external acts of glorification.' That really resonated with me... It was an eye-opening moment when I learned that a worship leader is someone who points people to the worthiness of God... I had never thought of myself as a worship leader before!"

- Pianist/Singer (Worship Leading Foundations Workshop)

"We’ve only had one session so far as a group, and it led to some really good discussion while also peaking the curiosity of 'everyone being a worship leader.'"

- Stuart, Campus Pastor (We Are ALL Worship Leaders Devotional)

  • This curriculum is rooted in a systematic biblical theology of worship.

My primary focus is on what Scripture reveals about corporate worship, and the curriculum is built on a specific, biblically-based and historically-informed framework for our gatherings.

It does not touch on specific musical styles as this framework can function within a contemporary, traditional, or blended context.

However, the curriculum may present a view of worship that differs from more experience-driven or Pentecostal models. If your ministry's foundation is built on these principles, you may find that the curriculum's teachings do not align with your current practices.

  • To access the 'More than Music' curriculum, you will need a reliable internet connection to download PDF documents (for devotionals and supplemental materials) and video content (for workshops and some supplemental resources). No special software is required beyond standard PDF readers and a web browser.

  • I understand that volunteer teams often have rotating schedules. The 'More than Music' curriculum is designed with this flexibility in mind. While the devotionals are structured weekly, they are provided as downloadable PDFs, allowing you to share them with your team members regardless of their rehearsal attendance. Team members can engage with the material at their own pace, catch up on missed weeks, and you can revisit key concepts during team gatherings as needed. The goal is consistent growth over the year, not rigid weekly attendance.

  • Most of the regular engagement with this curriculum will happen during your existing weekly team gatherings (like rehearsal or other dedicated meeting). Each devotional is designed for approximately 15 minutes of engagement (about 5 minutes of reading and 10 minutes for discussion). For the two main workshops, these are half-day sessions (e.g., 9am-12pm on a Saturday) that you'll schedule twice during the year (likely in February and September). Supplemental materials are similar in length to the devotionals, providing practical application and discussion points for rehearsals. The curriculum is designed to integrate smoothly into your team's existing rhythm without overwhelming them.

  • If you have any other questions about the 'More than Music' curriculum or the Founding Member opportunity, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly via email at spencer@leadingworshipwell.com. I'm happy to provide any additional information you need to make an informed decision for your worship ministry.
